What do you mean by 'Green'?

LEED - an acronym for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design - is the brainchild of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). It is the nation's foremost coalition of leaders from every sector of the building industry. Their job is to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible and healthier places in which to work and live.

This fall, the USGBC will formally launch a LEED (for homes) rating system. This rating system will serve as a template for assuring good indoor air quality for residential projects. It will provide designers, architects and builders with some baselines and consistent standards. With the growing concerns for our environment, more and more conscious thought is being invested in living green and practicing "responsible consumption." The USGBC urges that you choose flooring products that have a positive effect on your health while reducing your environmental impact. We are proud to offer many wood flooring products harvested from sustainably managed forests. Much of what we can offer is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and gives some peace of mind to our consumers concerned about depleting our natural resources. By educating yourselves, you may find that hardwood can be among the most environmentally responsible flooring alternatives.

There are affordable, durable, and rich looking flooring options made from grasses (bamboo) or bark (cork) which are sustainable alternatives to traditional hardwoods.

Please visit our manufacturer's page to have a closer look at each company's environmental impact policy. Keep in mind that as demand rises, more and more manufacturers will be added to the list of FSC approved companies.
